Hello, Writer!
Are you looking for a second pair of eyes?
I am Imogen L. Smiley, a bookseller-turned-ghostwriter based in Essex. I'm autistic and love nothing more than a good book, and an iced coffee with my Saint Bernard.
I have a degree in Creative and Professional Writing, awarded by The University of Derby in 2019, and has been producing content for writers, and other book lovers since 2021.

My Services
1
Writing
Are you looking for a quick and efficient writer who can tackle projects with large word counts and quick turnarounds? I have completed over ten NaNoWriMo challenges, writing 50,000 words each time within a thirty-day window, and have ghostwritten several books of similar word counts within thirty-day turnarounds.
I specialise in fantasy fiction however, I'm capable of exploring different genres and styles. I am confident I can adopt any voice you seek.
Over the years, I contributed to a variety of local projects, including collaborations with a primary school.
My control of language and nuance means I can emulate company voices without sounding robotic or false. I understand the weight of lexis and am deliberate with every word I use.

Copywriting
In 2021, I worked as a content writer, writing website copy, and company blogs for the agile sector.
Until recently, I believed I had closed the book on that chapter of my writing career, but in 2026, I took a chance and joined Word Tonic, a collective of Gen Z copywriters, and have polished my skills in copy.
While this is my newest service on offer, my spec work - work created with brand knowledge, exploring various briefs and parameters speaks for itself, with samples available of copy for Dogs Trust, Crufts, Cards Against Humanity and Wowcher.

Workshopping & Editing
Are you currently looking for someone to read over your manuscript? Are you worried about trusting a stranger to help you with your book? Consider workshopping!
As an author myself, I understand the vulnerability that comes from the editorial process. Workshopping is an effective way to share your manuscript and still have complete creative control. In the workshopping process, I act as an amalgamation of different editors, from grammar and spelling to plot, character development, and structural edits.
Alternatively, I have provided editing services in both fiction and non-fiction, tackling an independent author's final draft before publication and a PhD thesis exploring Pentecostal theology.
I strive for consistency throughout a document, from ensuring every potential reference has a footnote to making sure that a story adheres to the same tense. This can include offering the occasional note about continuity.
